This was a workshop to do with clay. Before we got to work we were given facts and knowledge about clay. We were also told about the rules when making objects with clay.
Facts: Red clay gets its colour from the iron that’s in it. China clay, has its name because even though we can find the material in England it was first found in China. Bone China is 48% bone which is from cattle brittle that comes out in a very hard form.
Clay s found in medicines, toothpaste, replacement of body parts because the body doesn’t reject it. It is also used as an insulator, it is put on the handles of pots and pans so you don’t burn yourself when cooking. Slaking is a term used to recycle clay. It is just ground up rock which can be found near water on river beds.
Rules when using clay: No object that you make should be thicker than your thumb as it wont dry quick enough so it will explode when you fire it. You also need a rough surface so the clay can stick together you can do this be crosshatching lines in the clay. Use a wooden tool not metal. The end product will be 10% smaller than when you first create a model.
One of the models I made was my footprint as I wanted it to be based on my data that I had collected. I used the amount of steps that I had recorded and I placed little stones in the dents of the shoe imprint to represent the amount of steps that I took.
