The universities I am applying for are City and Guilds, Bath, Slade, Goldsmiths, Westminster and Chelsea. I have had one interview and portfolio drop off so far, the interview being at City and Guilds with whom have offered me a place. The interview wasn’t what I expected, I thought it would be a lot more nerve wracking than it actually was. The interviews were very nice and made me feel very comfortable talking about my work. During the interview I was asked if I had come to one of the open days, which I had not due to a circumstance, and they responded by arranging a tour around the school. Everyone including students and staff were really friendly and I thought the atmosphere at the school was full of ambition. The workshops were smaller than I had expected them to be, however some of the studio spaces lived up to my expectations which is one of the reasons why I applied to the course. The only thing which is a slight discouragement to attending the course is how they expect you to go down a specific path, something which I don’t want to do as I like using all material and endlessly experiment.
I have completed all my interviews and portfolio drop offs and I have four places to go to. City and Guilds, Bath, Westminster and Chelsea. The place which I enjoyed my interview experience the most was Westminster, the interviewer was teaching me in my interview, something which I had not come across in other universities. It was incredibly informal which made my really comfortable with her, the fact that she taught me within my interview says something about the work ethic within the university. Everyone there was really lovely and I felt really comfortable being there. There is a variety of spacious workshops, which you can work across.
For now i’m struggling to choose between Chelsea and Westminster.
