Throughout this course I have grown a lot. I have bettered myself as an artist in several ways and have been more open minded to my art work. I began to love the process of the work I produce and use that as work itself. For example, with the work I did for my bacteria project, I learnt how to use new mediums and methods. With this came trial and error when figuring out what works best with the resources I had. During this process I documented the failures leading up to my finished pieces and used them as artwork itself.
I have changed a lot since the beginning of this course up until now, especially over the Christmas holiday period when I was in the middle of my bacteria project. I became more experimental with different materials and grew a new love for print making. Finding new techniques, such as embossing, which I have never tried before made me more passionate about being an artist and I think that this shows in my recent work. The difference between part one and two of the course is that I have become motivated to produce. My work has also, I find, to be of better quality than before. I think I have thought about my recent projects in more depth that previous ones and I have executed my ideas in better depth. The work I had completed in part one of the course, to me, felt very vague. I didn’t have much of a connection with the work I was producing as I do now, possibly because of the fact there was no self made concepts behind my work, perhaps I wasn’t thinking about the meaning in as much depth with the art as I am now in part two of the course. An example of this would be a comparison between my Text project and Sustainable Future project. The execution between the two are different, my concepts and development are much stronger in Sustainable Future.
My thought process for my projects have improved drastically since the beginning of this course up until now. I now think about the meaning and what I want my audience to feel when viewing my art. As an artist I have managed to love the mistakes within my work and document them for the process, I find the development a lot more important than I used to, as it is how you come to your end result. For example with my embossing and print making I used every print that came out even if some were worse than others. My sketchbooks have become significantly better quality in part two than they were in part one, because as I mentioned earlier, the process is something that is always in my mind when creating new work.
