Tate

7th of September

We took a trip to London to see two art galleries, Tate and Somerset house. I thought that Tate had a lot to offer with a wide range of art to look through. First we went to look at No ghost just a shell in The Tanks of the art gallery and I found it interesting how the used the space with the videos to create and eerie atmosphere when watching the piece. They placed a large screen in an empty room which made to focus a lot more on the videos. No ghost just a shell was about a manga character that had no developed personality or a life story, I think the space created really brought out this feeling of emptiness which linked with the characters lack of personality. The artist didn’t just do this with the videos but also with light displays.

We then moved on with the exhibition and went to see Between Object and Architecture. I really liked a sculpture called The Passing Winter – an interactive piece of work by Yayoi Kusama. It was a glass cube that had an interior and exterior lining of mirror with cut circles to show a chaotic composition within the cube. I found it interesting as it reminded me of outer space with the idea of infinity as the mirrored walls reflected off each other creating this ongoing space within a small cube.
