Over the Easter period I spent my time painting and experimenting with different Techniques and methods. One painting stands at almost three meters and the other one and and half meters. The size on the second one could pose a challenge when exhibiting and finding a space for it to fit let alone transporting it. The pictures of the paintings are yet to be finished.
I started to experiment with different colours within the pieces, for example, I started to use red, blue and black for the space around the middle. I started to do this because I thought that it would add more depth into the painting. I also realised that putting a border of electric blue around the orange makes the ‘positive’ seem brighter as they are opposites on the colour wheel. Another reason why I chose to do this was because of a video I came across talking about the colour blue. It suggested that it was a paranoid colour particularly when it is dark. “Blue says I am yours or you are mine”. Peoples negative experiences often have sad or depressive connections to it, from what I have gathered during my research. I thought that these quotes were interesting because it describes the colour as possessive in some way. Some people may feel that the negative experiences in their lives control them in some way. So I thought this link was intriguing which is why I incorporated the colour into the piece. I also decided to use red in the larger piece, for the positive and the negative as I personally find it to hit at various ends of the emotional spectrum. It has associations with love, danger, violence, evil, seduction, all varying dramatically.
